  • Range in size from 1/2 inch (1.5 cm) to 16 inches (35 cm) long
  • Prefer to live in sheltered areas like coral reefs and seagrass beds
  • Are monogamous and mate for life
  • Female deposits eggs in male's pouch where they reside until hatched
  • Eat shrimp, crustaceans and plankton
