Polar Bear

 Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus)

  • The world's largest carnivore
  • Males can weigh up to 1300 pounds (590 kg)
  • Native to the Arctic circle, living on islands, coastlines and ice blocks
  • Feed on fish, seals, gulls, walruses and beluga whales
  • White coat allows them to sneak up on their prey
  • Listed as a vulnerable species

Cheetah

Cheetah (Acinonynx jubatus)

  • The fastest land animal; sprinting up to 70 mph (113 kph)
  • Length of 4 feet (1.2 meters) and weigh up to 140 pounds (63 kg)
  • Native to Africa and Southwestern Asia
  • Hunt mammals such as gazelles and impala
  • Only 12,000 left in the wild

Hippopotamus

Hippopotamus  (Hippopotamus amphibius)

  • Second largest land mammal with males weighing up to 7000 pounds (3175 kg)
  • Spend most of their lives in water; come out to feed on grass
  • Can run at speeds up to 20 mph (32 kph) for short distances
  • Live in Sub-Saharan Africa (Zambia, Tanzania)

Somali Wild Ass

Somali Wild Ass (Equus africanus somaliensis)

  • Smallest of the wild equids (horses, zebras and asses)
  • Average 4 feet (1.2 meters) high and weigh about 600 pounds (272 kg) 
  • Live in desert areas in Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea
  • Legs have horizontal black stripes
  • Eat grasses and shrubs
  • Critically endangered
